Trakiets complex

The visit to the Thrakiets complex is not just a visit to a hotel. This is a dream came true for two sisters who at the age of 15 started riding and taking care of the horses. Cleaning and giving treats are just the beginning, and the own mare is the first step to the dream of a fabulous place where there are more and more horses. All this came true in 2012…

Way of sorrows walk pathway

A wonderful place for a walk is the path located next to the complex. It starts from the village of Zhitnitsa and ends in the Duvanliyska hill. It is part of the so-called Way of Sorrows, which is being walked on the Friday before the Catholic Easter, and during the rest of the year it is a favourite place to stay alone with the nature.

Cave, resembling Virgin Mary of Lourdes

In the French town of Lourdes, Virgin Mary appears to Bernadette Subiru, a local girl who becomes a nun and after her death she was proclaimed a saint by the Catholic Church. Bulgaria is one of the countries where caves – copies of that of Lourdes have been built. It is located in the village of Zhitnitsa and is the 23rd copy in the world and the first one in Eastern Europe. The dedication of the spiritual temple was accomplished by Monsignor Gzavie Desiree. The idea of the copy of the world sanctuary and prayer to the Heavenly Mother is to draw near to the virtues of faith.

Hisar – the town of mineral springs

Situated 20 km away from the complex, this town has been famous for its mineral springs and their healing abilities for centuries. You can visit a mineral pool or explore interesting sights since Roman times. You will find the well-preserved Roman fortress, as well as the remains of the largest Roman bath built in the 4th century. The legend tells that a beautiful Bulgarian woman refused to become a concubine of a Turkish Bey. To humiliate her, he made her serve naked his guests, in front of whom she killed him with the pastry tray. For her deed she was punished to burn at the stake where two warm tears broke out of her eyes. A spring that people called Maiden Tear sprang from them.

Tsar Asen Mine

Here, in the days of socialism, non-ferrous metals were obtained. The site is a big quarry for copper extraction, of which only large craters filled with stagnant and very toxic water remain nowadays. Its color is impressive blue-green, and it is the attraction for tourists and the occasion for many pictures. Near the mine there is a high hill, from which the panorama to all craters is memorable. The view is absolutely unusual for Bulgaria and not only water colour, but the whole surrounding relief gives the impression of a foreign planet surface.

Sun doors megalith

The sun doors megalith is a part of the Kamenitsa Thracian cult complex near Starosel. Its other name is Maiden Stones (somewhere it is written as Maiden breasts or Maiden Rocks). It is believed that this place is revered by the ancient Thracians as an entrance to the other world. Nobody knows whether the stones that lean to one another and form a passage have been put by people or made by nature. According to another legend, a girl from the nearby village gave herself in to her beloved one without being his wife and her family rejected her. While running from the village the curse came to her and she stumbled in the shape of this rock that was then called Maiden Stones.

Gout Masses Thracian architectural complex

It dates back to the 5th-4th century BC, and is situated on an area of about 8 decares. The site is located in Sredna Gora, 20 km north of the hills of Starosel. The complex includes a unique royal residence with several monumental buildings, surrounded by a fortress wall in quadruple construction. The central building is an imposing residence of a ruler. There were many coins from the Thracian kings Teres II and Amatok found, as well as double axes (labrys), a symbol of the royal power of the Thracians.
The studies are supervised by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ivan Hristov from the National Museum of History.

Climent Ecopath

It has been built by the young people of the village of Kliment. The path is 18 km long and connects the village with the excavations in the Gout Masses area. There is a branch to Orel peak. The altitude is 500 to 1400 m. A great option for a walk in the nature of Sredna Gora, both for groups and for a family outing. It has the necessary markings, as well as information boards that tell about the animal and plant world in the area. There are fountains, tables, benches and fireplaces along the route. Leisure can also be provided in the Fenera and Sedemte partizani chalets near which there is a playground for mass sport.

Thracian cult complex in the Chetinyovata mogila

It is located 16 km away from Zhitnitsa and was found by Georgi Kitov in 2000. It is the largest ever known Thracian royal complex with a mausoleum. A deified Thracian ruler, along with his horse has been buried in it. Subsequently, for religious or political reasons, the temple was desecrated, robbed, destroyed and overwhelmed. The ritual gifts of the excavations revealed only 15 plates of golden armor, 12 bronze arrowheads, silver rings, pieces of ceramic vessels. On the northern side of the temple there is an embedded rock bath-tub for wine production and storage. The complex is among the one hundred national tourist sites of the Bulgarian Tourist Union.
